Song Writers

Tom Goldburn

Writer of "Never Mind" but otherwise almost forgotten

Whilst their names live on with the printed sheet music most of the old time writers are almost forgotten. I am greatful to Tessa Westlake who wrote to me asking for information on Tom Goldburn. He was certainly unknown to me. There is no reference in the few books that I have and even 'Sing us One of the Old Songs' by Michael Kilgarriff has only one song to his credit - "Never Mind"

If anyone reading this has any more information to offer I would be most obliged.

We know that he wrote several music hall songs in partnership with Harry Dent.  We know of a song called "Never Mind" which was sung by Gertie Gitana and written in 1913.  "There's Someone Wants You" was sung by Dora Lyric in 1914, and "Follow the Blind Man" was sung by Chas. R. Whittle in 1914.  All these were published by Francis  Day & Hunter.

We would be grateful for either any information about him - even his dates of birth and death - or a link to someone who might know, as we are digging in the dark.            Contributed by Tessa Westlake
