J. L. Graydon

J. L. Graydon is memorable for his long and successful conduct of the Mogul. He was, in 1861, a cellarman at Weston's in Holborn, and was connected with that manager when he attempted to establish a miniature Vauxhall Gardens at Highgate. In 1871 he became H. G. Lake's manager at the Mogul. The house was rebuilt in the following year, and soon afterwards Graydon purchased the hall and remained in control there for over twenty years. It was in 1891, shortly before his retirement, when some rebuilding of the house took place, that Graydon renamed the hall, " The Middlesex."
