Alec Hurley 1871 - 1913

One of the three major Coster Comedians and Marie Lloyd's second husband

A very much incomplete page which was only made when the picture of Alec's grave marker arrived by e-mail. To be continued and completed...

In a play "Mr. Marie Lloyd", the life of Alec Hurley, there is a story that Nellie Power, at the height of her 'power' wanted to see Marie Lloyd at work. Since it was  unheard of for her to go to a Music Hall alone, she gave Alec Hurley the money to take her there. This was the first time that Alec, a young but up and coming turn, had seen Marie.

Alec did marry Marie and it is said that she always loved him but willful girl that she was, she could not devote herself to one man.

He died on 6th December 1913 aged 42

Alec Hurley's family's memorial has recently (2003) been restored to its original condition as part of drive by Roy Hudd, president of the British Music Hall Society, to restore the more famous artists' markers.
